Fans as Functional Accents
Maybe you want to flow with the design of that warehouse you’ve converted into a living space or you want to add a little industrial flare to your home. Either way you should never overlook fans as great accent pieces that serve a function. Ceiling fans are the most common fans and you should look for those that fit your theme. You can get brushed steel that looks like something out of a horror movie or you can get ones that look like leaves with organic curves. Either way, you need to consider the efficiency of these fans. If you want to save money on energy costs then you should look for flush mount ceiling fans that are very efficient at moving air and look great while doing it.
If you are lucky, you can find some great standalone fans. You only need a few of these as they can be moved unlike kids ceiling fans. Antique fans look awesome. If you can get chromed items from the 60’s and 70’s then all the better. They look beautiful and function nicely. Just be careful as many antique fans have steel blades that will be moving at high speed. Avoid using these around kids. Even if they have a steel cage around the blades you can usually fit little fingers through them and that’s a recipe for an emergency room visit.
If you really want to move some air then forget about the ceiling fans and standard room fans. Get yourself an industrial fan. You can go to your local home improvement store and buy big and super powerful fans that can move more air than you will ever need. These are amazing during the summer so long as you don’t mind not hearing anything and you don’t like your neighbors. Not for use at night.
